Kuehn, Sharpstene place 2nd at Dogwood

Two high school golfers from Asheville placed second in the Dogwood State Junior Championship which concluded Thursday at the Cabarrus Country Club in Concord.

Roberson senior Matt Sharpstene was the boys runner-up with a 54-hole score of 212. The West Virginia recruit had the lowest individual round of the tournament (66) on Wednesday. Christ School junior Carson Ownbey came in 13th with a score of 220 and Asheville Christian Academy senior Will Tamplin was another local golfer in the tournament (41st place, 228).

Asheville School sophomore Rachel Kuehn tied for second (224) in the girls division. She and two other golfers were tied for the tournament lead after 53 holes.

Two-time defending Dogwood champion Callista Rice from North Buncombe placed 10th in this year’s tournament with a score of 238.
