Two youth softball players for North Buncombe received individual awards at the conclusion of the Babe Ruth 14 and under World Series.
The World Series was held July 26 to Aug. 3 in Jensen Beach, Fla., and North Buncombe was the fifth-place team. Individuals who were recognized were Gracie Vetas (all-offensive team) and Cassie Plemmons (all-defensive team).
A North Buncombe youth team had never made it this far in Babe Ruth postseason play, but advanced as a result of winning the Southeast championship last month in Richmond, Va.
