Devon Davidson engineered the biggest comeback in Week 1 of Western North Carolina football.

If that wasn’t enough, the senior is only the second quarterback in Asheville High history to pass for more than 300 yards in one game.

The Cougars (1-0) beat Franklin, 29-28, with 20 unanswered points in the second half.

The official total that Davidson has been credited with from Friday’s official scorer (which is always the home team) has fluctuated between 326 and 333 yards. Either way, the performance is second only to the 344 yards that former QB Brandon Whiteside threw for in 2009 (also against Franklin).

Davidson and the Cougars are home for next Friday’s matchup with Newton-Conover (1-0).

Davidson took over as a starter for Asheville in 2015, passing for 1,632 yards and 13 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He completed touchdown passes to three difference receivers on Friday in the Panther Pit — Ahmad Shivers, Corey Clement and Makaius Brewer.
