Hendersonville’s Tykel Landrum (7).
Friend or foe, throw the football in Tykel Landrum’s direction and it’s bound to be caught.
The Hendersonville junior and former All-WNC receiver is once again among the mountains’ top players in that offensive category with 45 catches for 847 yards and seven touchdowns.
Landrum also moonlights as an above-average defensive back – he is No. 1 in MaxPreps’ statewide statistics for interceptions (seven) after a couple pick-sixes in last Friday’s 66-31 home win over Madison. Landrum is averaging 6.6 tackles a night.
Erwin senior Damien Ferguson has passed for a North Carolina-best 2,328 yards, according to MaxPreps. Another Warriors senior, C.J. Thompson ranks fifth in North Carolina with 849 receiving yards.
Tuscola senior Caleb Ferguson is third in touchdowns (23) and total points (132). Franklin junior Brock Kloeppel is fifth (116).
Mountain Heritage senior Adam Shuford has the third-most tackles in the state (104) and Roberson senior Logan Wells is fifth (96). Wells’ teammate, junior Greg Johnston, is third in North Carolina with 12.5 sacks.
Only schools which keep their statistics through MaxPreps, as many in Western North Carolina do, are included in the web site’s leaders.
