The Reynolds boys won Wednesday’s United Way Invitational cross country meet in Newton.
Wednesday’s United Way Invitational is one of the largest annual cross country invitationals in the western half of the state.
And the Reynolds boys won the meet with relative ease.
The Rockets (88 points) were the premier team out of 18 that ran the Southside Park course in Newton. Runner-up West Iredell had 122 points.
Scoring runners for Reynolds were Dwayne Lillie (sixth place, 16 minutes, 22.81 seconds), Noah Clifford (eighth place, 16:29.74), Neil Rogers (17th place, 16:59.13), Zeke Trezise (21st place, 17:07.02) and Thad McNeil (42nd place, 17:38.85).
Of that group, only Trezise is a senior.
Pisgah’s Andrew Hammel (third place, 16:15.17), along with West Henderson’s Dylan Shamburger (fourth, 16:16.58) and Jarod Connell (seventh, 16:27.61) were other local individuals in the top-10.
Reynolds also won the girls championship division with 105 points.
Scoring runners for the Rockets were Sophie Pruett (ninth place, 20:39.31), McKenna Sarac (15th, 21:24.37), Corey McVay (18th, 21:31.34), Snejana Spinache (28th, 22:02.62) and Jessica Merrill (35th, 22:13.11).
Additional runners from WNC in the top-10 individually were Asheville’s Eva Freeman (sixth, 20:28.12) and Pisgah’s Colbie Williamson (seventh, 20:30.04).
