Two more mountain quarterbacks passed for their 1,000th yard in Friday’s football games.
Cherokee junior Tye Mintz (1,201 yards) is a second-time member of the 1,000-yard club. He threw for 1,872 yards as a sophomore. Mintz and the Braves beat Rosman, 45-3, Friday in Transylvania County.
Pisgah sophomore Tanner Wike (1,059 yards) achieved the milestone for the first time in the Black Bears’ 23-20 overtime win over visiting Tuscola.
There are now 14 players from Western North Carolina who have passed for 1,000 yards this fall. Four have rushed for 1,000 yards and Erwin senior C.J. Thompson (992 yards) is on the verge of becoming the first receiver to do it.
