Roberson graduate Erwin Ortiz is a freshman for the Mars Hill swimming team.
Roberson alum Erwin Ortiz was the most recent Appalachian Swimming Conference Swimmer of the Week, and the good news kept coming over the weekend for the Mars Hill program.
Lions coach Teddy Guyer collected his 300th career win on Saturday during a meet against Union and Urbana in Barboursville, Ky.
Ortiz is a freshman for Guyer and was the Citizen-Times All-WNC Swimmer of the Year last winter. His conference award came from a dual meet against Lenoir-Rhyne. Individually, he swam winning times of 1 minute, 44.62 seconds for the 200-yard freestyle and 4:52.05 for the 500 free. Ortiz was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:04.88) and a member of the runner-up medley relay squad.
