HENDERSONVILLE – Michael Schmidt was seldom if ever flustered while throwing for 6,923 career yards.

Recruiting is no different for Hendersonville’s all-time leading passer.

More than two dozen Western North Carolina football players have either committed or signed with colleges. Schmidt isn’t one of them yet, but he isn’t sweating it.

The All-WNC quarterback was on a visit to Bryant (R.I.) Friday and recently offered at roster spot by Air Force. Navy is still in the mix, too.

“I’m keeping my options open,” Schmidt said.

“I want to see what each school has to offer and find the best fit for me. So I’m still waiting on a decision. But I hope to know something in the next couple of weeks.”

Schmidt was named the 2015 Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year and amassed the most total yards of any WNC player (4,363) for the Co-WHC champion Bearcats (7-6, 5-1). The 6-foot-3, 188-pound senior led all area quarterbacks with 3,312 passing yards and 31 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. He rushed for an additional 1,051 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Davidson offered Schmidt a scholarship back in December and he’s also explored the idea of playing Ivy League football since his weighted grade-point average is well above 4.00.
