Braxton Davidson signs autographs before a game at Asheville’s McCormick Field in 2015.
Roberson graduate Braxton Davidson’s next minor-league assignment with the Atlanta Braves will keep him in North Carolina.
Davidson, 19, has been assigned to the Braves’ Advanced Class A affiliate — the Carolina Mudcats. The Mudcats play out of Zebulon, which is in the Raleigh area.
Davidson had a .381 on-base percentage as an outfielder for the Rome Braves (Ga.) in 2015. He batted .242 with 84 walks, 45 RBIs, 23 doubles and 10 home runs. Rome plays in the South Atlantic League along with the Asheville Tourists.
Davidson is a 2014 Roberson graduate, and interestingly, was a freshman on the Rams’ last team to reach a state baseball final (2011). The site of that state final was the Mudcats’ Five County Stadium (Roberson lost to 4-A champ Holly Springs).
Atlanta selected Davidson out of high school with the 32nd overall selection in the 2014 draft.
