Mitchell senior Solomon Duncan has committed to wrestle in college for Johns Hopkins.
Duncan (21-1) was the NCHSAA 1-A runner-up at 152 pounds this past season and a three-time Western Highlands Conference champion.
Mitchell County Schools were on spring break this week which allowed him to visit the Baltimore college with his family. Duncan’s father is Mountaineers coach Ed Duncan.
“(The visit) went really well. He is pretty-well committed and I think his daddy is as excited about this as anybody,” Duncan said with a laugh.
“It’s a privilege to coach any young man, but especially your own son. It’s every parent’s dream to have that chance. And it was such a unique environment for us to spend time together.”
Solomon Duncan received an NCHSAA sportsmanship award during the NCHSAA dual team playoffs for the 1-A Western Regional champion Mountaineers (22-7). He has been an all-conference athlete in football and soccer this school year as well.
