The WNC Lady Royals basketball team won the Deep South Showcase’s 17 and under age division last weekend in Raleigh.
The WNC Lady Royals basketball team won the Deep South Showcase’s 17 and under age division last weekend in Raleigh.
More than 400 teams competed in the tournament and the Royals beat the Metro Lady Celtics (Md.), Infinity Flight (W. Va.), N.C. Spartans and New York Lightning before nipping Team Loaded (Va.), 46-45, in the championship game.
Players for the Royals are Halei Gillis, Ralene Kwiatkowski and Zaria Joyner from Carolina Day, Aaliyah and Jhimya McCollum from Smoky Mountain, Alyssa Craig and Meona Feather from Rabun Gap (Ga.), Kasey Kidwell from Erwin, Dani Sweeny from Reynolds and MaLeeah Langstaff from Swain County.
The team was coached by Joe Carrington and Jenny West.
