Jaiden Tweed is a sophomore for the Owen softball team.
Fifteen strikeouts is just another day at the ballpark for Jaiden Tweed.
The Owen sophomore led all mountain softball pitchers with 201 strikeouts in 2015. She sat down 15 Avery County batters, looking or swinging, in Friday’s 7-0 home win.
Tweed only gave up one hit in a complete game, Western Highlands Conference shutout for the Warlassies (2-1, 1-0).
Tweed is a right-hander who compiled 13 games with double-digit strikeouts last spring. Her career high is 17 and also occurred against Avery County (an 8-2 game played in 2015). She has made an early college commitment to Presbyterian.
Friday’s three-run third inning provided all the run support that Tweed needed. Leading hitters for Owen were Anissa Avila (3-for-4 with an RBI), Caitlyn Ledford (2-4 with two RBIs), Ashley Valencia (2-4) and Bria Crompton (2-3).
Brevard senior Casey Gilbert also pitched a seven-inning, 15-strikeout game Friday. But she and the Blue Devils (2-3, 0-1) fell to visiting Franklin, 3-2.
Gilbert has signed to play her college ball for Walters State (Tenn.).
