NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men’s basketball coach Lon Kruger announced Monday the signing of 2016 guard Jordan Shepherd to a national letter of intent. Shepherd, currently a senior at Asheville Christian Academy in Asheville, N.C., will be eligible for the Sooners this fall.
Shepherd, 6-2 and 175 pounds, was honored as the 2015 Carolinas Athletic Association’s player of the year after averaging 19.2 points, 5.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game as a senior. He was also named to the NCISAA 2-A all-state team.
“Jordan is a terrific, young combo-guard,” Kruger said. “He’s great at scoring as well as creating for others. Most importantly, he’s excited about coming to Oklahoma and we are thrilled to welcome him to the family.”
Shepherd joins an already impressive 2016 OU signing class that includes Kristian Doolittle, Matt Freeman, Kameron McGusty and Darrion Strong.
“All players in this class have great work ethics and desires to improve,” Kruger said. “They have team-first attitudes and all love the idea of being Sooners. This group is made up of high-quality players and people.”
ACA coach Andy Ray also spoke about the All-WNC guard’s college choice.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for Jordan with a great, solid program. They have a great coaching staff,” Ray said.
“He’s handled (recruiting) a lot like how he plays. Jordan is so steady, patient and confident. He really dug in and tried to make a good decision and I think he did.”
