More from her college, Western Carolina University:
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina track & field head coach Danny Williamson was named both the Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year after leading the Catamounts to a sweep of the 2016 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Sophomore Henry Kiedy was named Men’s co-Most Outstanding Track Performer, junior Hailey Cook was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer and Bri Anna Adams picked up co-Freshman of the Year honors announced the league’s office Wednesday.
Williamson earned a men’s and women’s sweep of Coach of the Year accolades, marking the fifth time in the league’s history that a coach has recorded an outright sweep in the outdoor season. Williamson also accomplished the feat in 1999. This is his seventh men’s outdoor Coach of the Year honor and his eighth for the women’s outdoor season.
Kiedy won his second straight 400m title with a season-best time of 47.23 seconds and was an integral part of the Catamounts’ two relay squads, which both posted first place finishes. He also finished at the 200m distance.
Cook ran away with the women’s field award with victories in the discus throw, hammer throw and shot put. The junior was especially impressive in the discus, as her toss of 45.36m (148-10) was a league-best mark during the outdoor season. Her win in the shot put, made possible by an effort of 14.71m (48- 3.25), gave the Catamount women a slim 1.5-point lead over Samford going into the final event of the day.
Adams recorded a second place finish in the 200m, a third place showing in the 100m and was a member of the Catamounts’ first place relay squads.
