Brevard senior Casey Gilbert has signed to play college softball for Walters State (Tenn.).

Brevard was up against the ropes Wednesday in the third round of the NCHSAA 2-A softball playoffs.
Casey Gilbert not only settled in, but pitched the No. 9 Blue Devils to a 3-2 win at top-seeded West Stanly.
Gilbert, who has signed with Walters State (Tenn.), hurled a complete game. She allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks to go along with five strikeouts.
“Our girls showed some guts and battled back,” Brevard coach David McNeill said.
The homestanding Rebels (22-2) scored both of their runs in the first inning. Bella Patterson scored the winning run as a pinch runner.
