The Western North Carolina Blaze 5th grade boys basketball team won the Basketball of the Carolinas’ Tiger Tussle tournament last weekend in Transylvania County.

The WNC Blaze were the 5th Grade Boys Division Champions this weekend in the Basketball of the Carolinas: Tiger Tussle Basketball Tournament, held in Brevard and Rosman. The Team went 3-1 on the weekend, including a big win in the championship game that avenged a loss they had earlier in the tournament. The Blaze were led in scoring by Tso Smith who averaged 12 points a game for the tournament. Tsisqwa Hill chipped in 6 crucial points in the first round of bracket play to propel the Blaze to the finals, where guard tandem of Reece Winchester and Kade Trantham led the way with 13 points and 12 points respectively. WNC Blaze players represent five schools including The New Kituwah Academy, Cherokee Elementary, Smokey Mountain Elementary, and Swain County East and West Elementary Schools.
