The WNC Lady Royals 11th grade basketball team won its age division at the Great Smokies Shootout played last weekend in Hickory.

The WNC Lady Royals 11th grade basketball team won its age division at the Great Smokies Shootout played last weekend in Hickory.

The Royals outscored their opponents, 312-157, and will be traveling to next weekend’s Basketball of the Carolinas North Carolina/South Carolina state championship tournament in Charleston, S.C.

Players for the Royals are Halei Gillis, Ralene Kwiatkowski and Zaria Joyner from Carolina Day, Aaliyah and Jhimya McCollum from Smoky Mountain, Alyssa Craig and Meona Feather from Rabun Gap (Ga.), Kasey Kidwell from Erwin, Dani Sweeny from Reynolds and MaLeeah Langstaff from Swain County. The coaches are Joe Carrington, Jenny West and Dale Earnhardt

Annabelle Schultz (Carolina Day) Nautica Smiley (Carolina Day) Josie Earnhardt (Rabun Gap), Aleshia Tisho (Smoky Mountain), Jaia Wilson (West Henderson) and Amber Redmond (Erwin) are 10th-grade players who filled in recently due to injuries.
