The mother-son combination of Cindi Simmons and Jackson Simmons joined Jackson County’s athletic hall of fame last weekend.
The induction ceremony was held Sunday in Cherokee.
Cindi Simmons was inducted by her husband, Si.
She retired in 2013 from coaching after winning three state volleyball championships (1991, 1992 and 1993) and a fourth NCHSAA title in basketball (2007). She is presently the county-wise athletic director for Jackson.
Jackson Simmons is a 2011 Mustangs graduate who holds school records for career scoring (1,916 points) and rebounds (1,554). He went on to play basketball for four years at the University of North Carolina and is currently an assistant coach at Charlotte.
Jackson Simmons was inducted by his high school coach, Jimmy Cleaveland.
Athletes from Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountain were also honored during the Jackson induction ceremony.
