Reynolds graduate Levi Ledford has begun his college-football coaching career at Appalachian State.
The all-time leading passer in Reynolds history has embarked on a new chapter in his football career — coaching.
Former Rockets quarterback Levi Ledford will be helping out Appalachian State’s staff this upcoming season as a student coach.
Ledford is studying business administration in Boone. He last played for Florida Tech in 2014 and had transferred to Gardner-Webb, but had to to sit out last season in accordance with NCAA rules.
As a high school senior, Ledford was an All-Mountain Athletic Conference and All-WNC selection who passed for 2,556 yards and 22 touchdowns with eight interceptions, while rushing for 354 yards and eight touchdowns.
Ledford holds the majority of Reynolds’ career passing records, including most yards (5,505), completions (404) and touchdowns (41).
Appalachian State is the preseason favorite in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Mountaineers have four Western North Carolina high school graduates on their roster — junior tight ends Bill Cecil (Roberson) and Levi Duffield (Tuscola), senior long snapper Isaac Edwards (Mitchell) and freshman quarterback Zeb Speir (Smoky Mountain).
