Owen senior Anissa Avila has committed to play college softball for East Tennessee State.
Avila was an All-Western Highlands Conference outfielder for the Warlassies (15-6) last spring who batted .443 with five RBIs and 17 stolen bases. She had a fielding percentage of .905. Avila was named to the N.C. Softball Coaches Association’s all-district team.
“She is extremely excited about this, and it’s always a big weight lifted off your shoulder,” Owen coach Jenny Johnson said.
“I think it’s a good fit for her. We’re all just really excited to see how she does when she gets there.”
Avila is the second current member of Owen’s roster to make a college commitment. All-WNC pitcher Jaiden Tweed is a junior who has pledged to Presbyterian.
