SALEM, Va. — The East Cobb (Ga.) Bullets 2021 Heath team won the ASA/USA 12 and under Class A national championship on Sunday with big contributions from two local middle school players.
Macon Middle eighth grader Taylor Ensley is a shortstop and Fairview School seventh grader Alannah Hopkins pitched for the Bullets, which are comprised of 13 girls from four different states. East Cobb is coached by J.D. Heath.
The team went 9-0 in the national tournament, outscoring opponents 48-12, and collectively batting .331.
Ensley hit .583 with seven RBIs. She had 19 putouts and 26 assists on defense. Hopkins was 4-0 in the circle with no earned runs allowed in 23 innings. She pitched a perfect game and two shutouts.
Next up for the two girls and Georgia teammate Scout Jennings is a trip to the USA Elite Select 30 All-American camp in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It is an invitation-only event which will be held Aug. 19-21.
