HENDERSONVILLE – J.D. Dinwiddie wants to create a winning culture at his new school.

Friday was a successful, albeit emotional first step.

Ty Gossett threw touchdown passes to Dez Moorman, Mikal Timpson and Barshia Young allowing Roberson to escape North Henderson with a 19-15 win.

Dinwiddie’s loyalties lie with the Rams now. But the first-year coach couldn’t help but be torn for much of the night inside Marlow Stadium. He was at North Henderson for four seasons before accepting the Roberson job last January.

“I have to give so much credit to those kids at North Henderson. I coached most of them and they played their guts out (Friday). So did our kids,” Dinwiddie said.

“A game like that is huge for us. We turned the ball over six times and were sloppy on offense at times. But at the end of the day, a ugly win is still a win.”

Dinwiddie had a 15-30 record at North Henderson and last year’s 7-5 campaign was the first winning season for the Knights since 2000.

“I’m glad (Friday) is over with for a lot of reasons,” Dinwiddie said.

“Your first game is never real pretty. I’m glad we’ve got some of the drama behind us, too. Now we can focus on the task at hand and that’s trying to become a better football team.”

Gossett is only a sophomore. He and the Rams (1-0) will try to build on their win next week at home against East Henderson (0-1).
