ASHEVILLE – Close wins have been a hallmark of this season for Asheville School tennis.

It was never more true than the match which clinched a sixth straight Carolinas Athletic Association championship.

No. 3 singles player Lillie Bridges braved a third-set tiebreaker and the Blues (7-2, 3-1) took two out of three doubles matches in Wednesday’s 5-4 win at Carolina Day.

Other singles wins for Asheville School came from Rachel Kuehn (No. 1) and Sarah Abernethy (No. 2), who together also won the No. 1 doubles match. Bridges and Sarah Mims were victorious in the No. 2 doubles match.

“Winning the conference is a wonderful affirmation of their commitment in each other, and it is evidence of the work they have put into improving as individuals and as a team,” Asheville School coach James Pharr said.

“(Assistant coach Derry Roberson) and I are proud of the way our team has battled this season. I am especially proud that we have managed to win a number of very close matches – many of which were decided by just a few critical points.”

The next match for Asheville School is Tuesday at Spartanburg Day (S.C.).
