Hendersonville junior Tykel Landrum tied a Western North Carolina single-season record for interception returns (three) with a 50-yard “pick six” in Friday’s 66-6 win at Avery County.
Landrum had two interception returns the week before against Madison.
He now shares the WNC record with Sylva-Webster football legend Jimmy Streater, who had three for the Golden Eagles in 1973.

Landrum and the Bearcats improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Western Highlands Conference with Friday’s win. He also had a pair of punt-return touchdowns (55 and 59 yards) and caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from fellow junior Alex Williford.
