More from the Bulldogs:
CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Two players on the UNC Asheville men’s soccer team were honored by the Big South Conference today, Friday Nov. 4, for both performances on the field and in the classroom.
Zach Joens and Zack Compton were voted to the Big South Second Team All-Conference. Compton was also voted to the All-Academic Team by the Big South Conference.
Joens, a senior forward, has played in 16 games, in which he started in 13 of them. During the course of the season, Joens has scored seven times for the Bulldogs, two of which were game winners. Joens has also recorded three assists to combine for a total of 17 points on the year. He has a total of 30 shots for this season.
Compton, a junior defender, has started in all 18 games this season. He has taken 18 shots this season, two of which found the back of the net for a goal. Compton also has recorded one assist, combining for five points.
“It’s a great honor to have your players recognized for their endeavors both in the classroom and on the field,” Head Coach Matt Mennell stated. “I thought both Joens and Compton were excellent this season and it’s nice to see that the other coaches in the Big South felt the same way. Obviously, you would like to see all of your players be recognized but these All-Conference honors are hard to come by, especially in a year where the table was so tight.”
The No. 3 seeded Bulldogs will host No. 6 seed Longwood at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6 at Greenwood Field in the Quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tournament. The winner of this match will advance to face the No. 2 High Point in the semifinals on November 9.
