North Buncombe alum Alex Destino.
South Carolina is the fourth-ranked team in the country.
And the Gamecocks’ leader in hits is a name familiar to Western North Carolina baseball.
North Buncombe graduate Alex Destino has a team-high 51 hits after South Carolina’s weekend sweep of Missouri. The sophomore outfielder has started 36 of 37 games and is batting .354 with 38 RBIs, 10 doubles and four home runs.
Destino’s batting average is the second-highest of any player for the Gamecocks (33-8) as are his totals for doubles and homers. South Carolina’s next game is Friday, the start to a three-game home series against Florida.
