SKYLAND – Shane Galloway was still tweaking his lineup as of Monday.
There is no time to spare and Asheville Post 70’s first-year coach knows it. A new season of American Legion baseball begins Tuesday.
Asheville will host a 7 p.m. game against Henderson County Post 77 starting at 7 p.m. at Roberson.
“I’m feeling pretty good about this group,” Galloway said.
“We should definitely be able to put some runs on the board. All of the hitters that we have bat 2-3-4 at their schools. So that is something to be excited about. I hope we have a big crowd.”
Post 70 has only had a handful of practices together. The group is comprised of either current or former players from Asheville High, Erwin, Madison, North Buncombe, Reynolds and Roberson.
The players and their home high schools are as follows — Jared Patterson, Noah Cook, Langston Haden and Devin Mangum (Asheville), Alejandro Banegas, Dalton Crook, Damien Ferguson and Ryan Maynor (Erwin), Jared Rogers. Jordan Baker and John Heys (Madison), Robert Rogers (North Buncombe), ,Kyle Cagle, Chris Banks and Josh Dotson (Reynolds), Nate Fore, Holden Upright, Will Westbrock, Jacob McCarthy, Trenton Davis, Danny Trizano, Garrett Blaylock, Aaron McKeithan and Jake Morgan (Roberson).
A 16-game schedule in terms of the regular season concludes July 1 at Henderson County.
Blaylock who is a shortop/pitcher was the Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year for this past season.
“We’ve only had about two or three practices together, but you can already feel the team chemistry,” Blaylock said.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of this team.”
