North Buncombe alum Alex Destino just wrapped up his sophomore season for the South Carolina baseball team.
There is no rest for the weary when you are an elite college baseball player.
And Alex Destino certainly classifies as that — the 2014 North Buncombe graduate led South Carolina in RBIs (59) and home runs (10) this past season as a sophomore. He will be eligible for the 2017 major league draft.
The Gamecocks’ season came to an end Sunday in Game 2 of their Super Regional with Oklahoma State with a 3-1 loss in Columbia, S.C.
Destino won’t be inactive for long.
He has been selected to play this summer in the Cape Cod League for the Wareham (Mass.) Gatemen whose season began over the weekend. Destino is listed on the team’s roster as an infielder, outfielder and pitcher.
Destino was a two-time Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year at North Buncombe (2013 and 2014).
