The Asheville Rowinig Club took part in last week’s Southeast Rowing Championships in Augusta, Ga.

Special thanks to the Asheville Rowing Club for this information and the photo:

Members of the Asheville Rowing Club participated in the U.S Rowing Southeast Championships June 25-26, 2016 in Augusta, Georgia.  21 clubs from 7 states participated in the event which is registered with the U.S. Rowing Association and featured Masters Rowers who are 21 years of age and older.  Boats and crews included singles, doubles, quads (4) and eights with divisions for men, women and mixed men and women.  Team points and gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded for first through third place in each event.

Asheville was represented by 19 rowers ranging in age from 36 to 68 (the coxswain in one crew was only 19 which is allowed).  Four rowers from the Sarasota Rowing Club joined Asheville to complete crews in several boats. Each participant on the team “medaled” in at least one event resulting in the Asheville team placing second overall.  The first place team was from Atlanta.

The Asheville Rowing Club has a boat house at Lake Julian where they also practice.  The club has several experienced rowers who rowed in college but many of the members learned the sport at the club.  “Learn to Row” Classes are held each fall and spring.  Rowing is a great sport for fun, fitness and competition for those who want to race.   See the Asheville Rowing Club website at ashvillerowing.org for more information.
