Roberson senior Dayquan Watkins
Roberson senior Dayquan Watkins is a big guy getting some deservedly-large preseason recognition.
The 6-foot-7, 350-pound lineman is a second-team selection on the Friday Night Football Carolinas magazine’s preseason all-state team for North Carolina.
He was the only area player selected.
Watkins is a former two-time All-Mountain Athletic Conference blocker. As a junior, he graded out at 80 percent and had 19 pancake blocks for the MAC 4-A champion Rams (3-9). Defensively, Watkins made 49 tackles (28 solo). He was named to the Citizen-Times All-WNC team.
Watkins is one of 10 returning starters for first-year coach J.D. Dinwiddie.
