Dion Lansdale (in the white shirt) is the new coach for Andrews boys basketball.

Andrews has found a former college coach to take over its boys basketball program.

The Wildcats announced Friday that Dion Lansdale is their hire.

Lansdale coached the men’s team at Charlotte’s Johnson and Wales University from 2011 to 2014 and had been a high school head coach in North Carolina and Texas prior to that. He lives in the Hiwassee Dam area of Cherokee County.

Lansdale is a Purcell, Okla., native who played college basketball at St. Mary of the Plains (Kan.). He started his coaching career at the University of North Texas in 1994.

Lansdale has been out of coaching since October 2014. During that break, he has been working for the National Collegiate Scouting Association.

Last season’s Andrews team went 8-14 overall and 3-9 in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference under former coach Mike Trammell.
