Recent Roberson graduate Erwin Ortiz has signed to swim in college for Mars Hill.
Ortiz was named the Citizen-Times All-WNC Swimmer of the Year last winter.
He was the most valuable performer of the Buncombe County and Mountain Athletic Conference meets. Ortiz won December’s Ironman championship by more than 20 seconds. Ortiz logged the area’s best time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.43) and 500-yard freestyle (4:41.55). He had a top-three time, locally, in five other individual events and was part of WNC’s three fastest boys relays – the medley relay (1:40.37), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.80) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.45).
