Polk County graduate Joel Booker is a player in the Chicago White Sox organization.
Two former Western North Carolina high school baseball players have earned minor-league promotions in the past week.
The Chicago White Sox have assigned Polk County alum Joel Booker to a rookie league team (Great Falls, Mont.) and the Chicago Cubs have moved up Asheville Christian Academy graduate Bailey Clark to Single-A Eugene (Ore.).
Both were previously playing for rookie teams in Arizona.
Booker, 22, is an outfielder who is batting .302 with 19 RBIs, 27 stolen bases and eight doubles in his first professional season. He was a 22nd round pick in June’s major league draft. Booker graduated from Polk County in 2012.
So far, Clark has a 1.17 earned-run average and nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched. The 21-year-old is a left-hander who graduated from Asheville Christian Academy in 2013. The Cubs took him in the fifth round of this year’s draft.
