Former Reynolds football standout Rico Dowdle ran the ball nine times for 47 yards Saturday in South Carolina’s 24-13 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M.
The game in Columbia, S.C., was the first at the college level for Dowdle, who was the 2015 Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year. He had missed the previous four games for the Gamecocks (2-4) with a groin injury.
Afterwards, South Carolina coach Will Muschamp had this to say about the 5-foot-11, 211-pound freshman:
“He runs through contact, and he’s an explosive runner. A lot of times when there’s a zone read and you have that defensive end
lagging down on the line, you’re able to get that punch and run through contact. That’s something you need, and he’s got some
strength about him and some explosive power.”
South Carolina is back home for next week’s game against Georgia.
