The Hominy Valley 6 and under softball team won a Babe Ruth state championship Sunday in Winston-Salem.
Hominy Valley defeated Erwin, 12-5, in the tournament’s championship game.
Head coach Adam Hamlin and his team played in honor of Mya Grace Phillips, a local child who is battling cancer. Phillips is in the same age group as the other girls on the Hominy Valley 6U team and was also a big motivation for Enka’s second state-championship run in NCHSAA 3-A softball.
